Truth: I have never been to a blogger meet up event before. I might have attended two other events where bloggers were invited, however the purpose was not to socialise, so when I got an email about this event organised by the Blogger Hub and Bloggers Who Brunch I knew I had to go. Immediately after I got the email I signed up and got myself a ticket, however that was the easiest part. Actually going is a complete different story.
Lately, I have been reading more and more about events and about what they are like, but when faced with the reality, it is not the same. For someone introverted like me, it is easier said than done. I guess many of you can relate. The thought of going somewhere unfamiliar to meet up with many people you’ve never met before can be quite scary. However, I was panicking for no good reason.
Getting to the venue was easy, finding the actual door to the place not so much. Luckily, on my way in I bumped into Melissa (whose blog you MUST check out as it is really amazing) and in the end we got to the really chic apartment that was rented for the occasion.
I have to admit that I did not stay until the end as I had many things to catch up on for school, but the event was really great overall. It was obvious that the organisers put a lot of effort into it, they found a nice place, got cupcakes and champagne (I think). I cannot comment on that any further as I did not taste either, but the gesture was nice considering that the budget was probably limited since the tickets were less than 10 pounds each.
During the couple of hours I spent at the event, I got to meet a lot of people who share my interests and with whom I was able to discuss blogging without having people looking at me weirdly. Despite my initial apprehension, I am glad that I found the courage to attend as it helped me on a profession and personal level. Getting out of the house and putting myself out there, networking with people who work in the same industry was definitely an experience that was good for me. Blogging can get lonely at times, even though comments and interactions with readers and other bloggers help. However, being in the same room with other people is something we need every once in a while. Here, I am talking about people who understand what you’re going through and people you actually want to spend time with. 🙂
Definitely enjoyed the event and I look forward to more. If you’ve never been to one such meet up, I do recommend you give it a try. I did not know what I was missing! This is it for now, I have to go and check out the blogs of all the amazing people who attended the event.
