Okay, so there is something you might not know about me. I hate it when shop assistants fuss all over me, they make me feel incredibly uncomfortable. You would think that it would go away with age, but no, it worsened and you all know just how much I love to shop. Anyway, last November I think it was, I found a voucher in Marie Claire UK for a L’Occitane Provence gift and I decided for once in my life to actually go inside a boutique and take advantage of the offer.

Going inside the boutique is an experience all of its own. The ladies there are so nice, too nice I would say and that is always the case, as I later discovered. L’Occitane employees try to make you feel at home with champagne or tea and hand massages. Truly, I appreciate all of their effort, but they simply made me feel worse than I already did. After all, I was going inside to simply pick up a free gift! The bottom line is that I felt so embarrassed going inside the store just to use the voucher that I ended up buying the item closest to me. Don’t get me wrong, I have been using L’Occitane products for ages, but I either bought them from a large store that carries the brand or from the duty free at an airport where people usually ignore me. I ended up leaving with products I have never used before, but regardless I am not sorry.

Until that point, I have only used L’Occitane showers gels and countless hand creams, but never ever a face product, even though I was tempted to try them out. So on that rainy November day, I left with a oil based cleanser and a toner.

Toners I have used for a very long time now, some of them were budget, others high end. This one definitely fits under high end, both due to its quality as well as its price. The toner is good and smoothing to the skin, however the bottle system it not the best for this type of product. I ran out of the toner very quickly, a lot quicker than I usually do with my other toners. Also, even though I really enjoyed the product, I have used other than were a few times cheaper and that I liked just as much, if not more. For that reason, I will probably not get one too often. Since November, I have to admit that I did get another one, but it will probably not happen again for a while.

Oil cleansers I have not used before last November. I was not sure what to expect and frankly I was a bit skeptical as I had not even read any reviews of an oil based cleanser until that point. Luckily, I was wrong on so many accounts. Hmm, I think that is the first time I actually said it with a smile on my face. I am a stubborn mule who does not like being wrong. But like I said, this is one of the sweetest times when I was wrong. I thought that using an oil based product on my combinational/oily skin would not end up well, but it did. The cleanser is great, but I only use in the evenings in order to remove my makeup. The cleanser is a bit too harsh for mornings, at least in my opinion.

Personally, I am incredibly happy with the product.  I am already on my second bottle and I foresee many more in the future. Even though the bottle system is the same, I did not run out of this product just as fast. If I am not mistaken, according to the instructions one should apply the product directly on the skin, however since the product is a bit harsh, I usually rub it between my palms and then apply it. The product strips off all the dirt, but also a layer of natural substances that are usually found on one’s skin. For this reason, the product might not be suitable for everyone. It leaves my face clean, but a bit dry.

Honestly, I do not regret my purchase. However, I do wish I would have gotten these products at a time when I was not feeling embarrassed nor, how should I put it? Felt pressured to buy them? It was a silly moment, but it still happened. I could say that I am ashamed that I let such a small thing influence my decision, however there is no point. There is nothing that can be done now, nor does it need to be. Overall, L’Occitane is definitely a brand I will continue using, just that now I will know to look at their skin care products as well and not focus simply on handcart. It has yet to disappoint me!

Have you ever tried any L’Occitane products? If so, which ones and what did you think of them?

Am I the only one who sometimes feels embarrassed when shop assistants fuss over them?

Have you looked at my Instagram lately? I have posting updates more often over there 🙂
