A few days I suggested to my mother that we should watch Netflix’ Iron Fist since we are both fans of the Marvel Universe. It turned out to be a big mistake. She seems to be enjoying it, while I am bored out of my mind. I cannot really tell whether she enjoys it because she wants to relax and stop thinking about work, due to the fact that there is nothing else on TV worth watching that she hasn’t seen before or simply because she is such a big fan of the universe. Okay, there is another option – that there is actually something in the show that I am not seeing.
Like previously mentioned, I love Marvel and I liked this show in the begin as it was a lot brighter than so many of the shows out there today. What is up with that? Do they not wish to invest in special effect as much anymore and they make the movies dark so you cannot really see what is happening? Anyway, yes, this started a lot brighter and it seemed like an interesting story, but after a while it got boring. Okay, for me it got boring fast really and that does not happen often.
I liked the idea of a young boy, now man, coming back and trying to get his life back after being considered dead for many years. It was interesting to see how he would recover what was left of his legacy, but some of the things he’s done made me want to shake my head in shame. On one hand, I understand his desire for things to go back the way they used to be, or as close as possible, and of course I understand his desire to have a family once more. That is absolutely normal, considering the circumstances, but certain things were just too much. Saying sorry for so many things and taking the guilt onto himself on so many occasions, especially business related, made me cringe. You don’t do that, you never do that! It is not like he lived in a jungle for all these years, he lived surrounded by people so I guess I was expecting a bit more. I am not trying to be the evil business person here, just like his childhood friend, but still… I just felt like it was not the best example to show to a young and more impressionable audience that is probably watching the show. Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against one paying for their mistakes, that is how it should be, but one should not act guilty and accept that guilt when they are in fact innocent. It was nice though that he wanted to do the right thing even if it was not his fault, however there is a place and time for that, especially when it comes to business.
I am not going to go in more detail just in case some of you still want to watch it. Remember, this is just my opinion. In general, there were a few parts that were interesting as well as some twists, but overall the episodes are way longer than they should be.
I just cannot wait for Netflix to one day create a Marvel show that I can truly enjoy. Despite the several shows they already produced (Marvel ones, that is), none of them truly caught my attention. I will insist with some of the others, but I have a feeling that I won’t change my mind since I haven’t done so by now.
Have you tried watching Iron Fist? Do any of you enjoyed the show?
