OMG, can you believe it? We are already on day 5 of the beauty advent calendars extravaganza! Today’s product is the Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipstick which is also the 5th product from the Amazon calendar.
It was nice to see another lip product as lately I have been obsessed with those and now that I started commuting quite a lot, I do not feel as comfortable as before wearing some of the lipsticks I love. I mean what if I get hungry? What if I eat and it gets smudgy? What if a simple retouch does not help the whole situation? Maybe I am being a bit too paranoid about nothing, but I would rather stick with something that looks good even as it wears off. Bourjois is quite an affordable brand and that is great, however I haven’t used many of their products before so I was curious to see how this Velvet Lipstick would behave.
The colour I got is Flaming Rose 02 and it is a beautiful colour. It is not quite nude, but it resembles the natural colour of my lips enough that it fits one of the qualities I was looking for. As soon as I tried it on though, I started feeling it on my lips as if I was conscious it was there! That was quite weird as I do not know about you, but I prefer wearing lipstick that does not remind me at all times that it is there. It sort of looks like a matte lipstick, but it is a bit more buttery so not as drying which is always a welcome surprise. I love matte lipsticks, they are my favourite, but many of them make my lips so dry that they become uncomfortable. Anyway, another point in favour of this product. In addition, the lipstick is easy to apply and it applies evenly and the colour is incredibly rich. However, as soon as you take a sip of something or you even attempt to take a bite, most of the lipstick comes off which is pretty disappointing as you will need to retouch a lot if you plan on wearing the product for many hours at a time. That is more of a drawback than usual because one application of the lip product consumes more product than the average lipstick I would say, so you might not get as much use from it as you do from other similar products. That is definitely a shame.
Overall, I loved the texture even though it did feel a bit weird initially and I will continue to wear the product in the future for certain, however I am not entirely sure that I will buy another one. Compared to some other Bourjois products that I own, this product is slightly more pricey retailing at 8.99£. I mean that is not a lot, but it is still a bit high considering just how much use you are going to get and considering the brand.
