Amazon’s advent calendar, yes you read that right, Amazon came out with a beauty advent calendar, just like many other retailers. I mean, it was bound to happen no? Amazon has this need to do everything that everyone else does and tries to do it better while they are at it. Did they manage to do that with the beauty advent calendar?
Okay, I got myself into this one. It is quite difficult to answer. On one hand, the Amazon beauty advent calendar is incredibly affordable and has some pretty good products inside. Furthermore, it also gives you the opportunity to try many new brands and products that you might have not even considered buying before. It definitely happened in my case! However, yes there is a however, I do not feel like the calendar is anything special especially if you compare it to the others that were available on the market. If you managed to buy it at a reduced price of 35 compared to 50 that makes it a little bit better, but I honestly do not feel like it was worth the 50 pounds when you could have easily added a bit more and gotten something much better and luxurious.
The box itself was huge and I mean huge! Once again it would have looked incredibly cool underneath the tree as a huge present, but that it is not its intended purpose. The quality of the box however was lacking. The box was made of very soft card and each of the products were put inside some pretty big boxes of their own which in most cases than not, it was just a waste of paper. The calendar overall is just too big and that makes it even more disappointing when you realise what was hidden inside the little boxes. The only interesting thing about all of this was the fact that Amazon tried to adopt a completely different design than other retailers. It was a nice touch, but that did not make the calendar special in any way at the end of the day.
As for the products, all them seemed to be some sort of Amazon leftovers, if you know what I mean. There was a bit of variety, but most of them are products I would have a teenager play with or someone who is just starting to become interested in beauty rather than someone who is a beauty junkie. In Amazon’s defence they did try to include some pretty well known brands and products that are quite expensive and also suitable for a wider range of ages, but most of them still felt like they were suitable for teenagers mostly.
Overall, it was a nice try on Amazon’s behalf, but for someone like me at least, the products were just not worth the money. You can easily get a beauty box from Amazon for free when you spend 50 pounds and at least you get better products in the box and you also get to choose the products that you want for those 50 pounds. Maybe I will change my mind about the products once I use them for a lengthily period of time, but overall, the calendar just does not do it for me.
Please, don’t hate me!
